Chapter 8

This chapter discussed security issues, ethics, and emerging technologies in education. It discussed computer viruses and how to detect them and remove them. Thankfully I have never had a virus on my computer but the information was still helpful in case I ever did get one and because it gave tips on how I can continue to avoid them. I also learned the term "brownvoltage". This occurs when there is prolonged undervoltage. I've never hears that word before.
This week we created webpages. I found this process to be somewhat confusing. Especially when it came to trying to upload the powerpoints. I don't know if is was because of the bravehost or if it was just me. I was also disappointed because I wanted to be more creative with my background and fonts and things so I tried not to use the templates but I just got more confused. Maybe if I had more time to spend I could have figured it out but I was getting frustrated.

Chapter 6

This chapter discussed technology, digital media, and curriculum integration. I found the information describing authentic learning, active learning, anchored instruction and problem-based instruction to be interesting. I think authentic learning is extremely important to incorporate into the classroom because I often wondered why did I have to learn things and how would that knowledge help me in life. For me, active learning is extremely important. I'm the type of person that can't just learn by listening to a person talk. It's hard for me to concentrate and retain. I learn more and am able to apply the things that I learn better when I am interacting while learning and I think many other people are the same way.
This week non linear powerpoints were made. I have never made a non linear powerpoint before so learning how to make them was nice. I never really heard of one before. I thought all powerpoints were done the same way, in the linear format. I think this was can be a useful teaching tool. I could use it to teach in the classroom or have my kids work with it on an individual basis.

Chapter 5

Chapter 5 in the book talked about integrating digital media and educational software applications. I learned the difference between digital media software and interactive digital media. Digital software is any computer-based presentation or application that uses multimedia elements. Interactive digital media allows users to move through information at their own pace. It can also describe a digital media application that accepts input from the user by means of keyboard, voice, simple movements, or a pointing device and performs an action in response.
We discussed wikis again in class. I dont think there was anything new to learn.

Chapter 2

Chapter two discussed many different topics including website categories and Internet service providers. An Internet service provider or ISP can be regional or national. A national ISP is a business that provides Internet access to cities and towns nationwide and broadband access in many locations. A regional ISP is a business that usually provides access to a specific geographic location. There are various website categories such as education, business, blog, wiki, and entertainment. A wiki is a collaborative site that allows users to create, add to, modify, or delete the site content via their Web browser. An education site offers exciting and challenging avenues for formal and informal teaching and learning.
Since the my last posting I learned helpful information about how to successfully search for information on the web. I learned that if you just change your wording slightly you can get different results. I learned putting your specific question into the search engine can be help you find your answer quicker because someone may have answered the question already.
There isn't anything that I would like to discuss with the class in this post.
